Reviewer Background: General programmer with some experience in web programming and designing web sites. Also interested in online business.

Content Type: HOWTO book filled with general tips and programming hacks.

Content Level: Both beginning and intermediate level information.

Features: Lots of code snippets, mostly in HTML and javascript. Fair sprinkling of perl, and other code snippets. Most of these are of the cookbook variety, assuming no changes in the EBay API. Good number of images of HTML pages showing what to look for, or showing possibilities. Many pointers to Internet sites which can help with running a eBay business, many useful for Internet businesses which don't involve eBay. The book has an accompanying web site, which purports to keep any code from the book, up to date with changes in the eBay API. The section on photography is good for anyone trying to sell anything using photographs.

Style: Typical of other perl books from O'Reilly. Quite easy to read.

Rating: The subtitle (Tips and Tools for Bidding, Buying, and Selling) is more descriptive of the book, as I would rather see the word "Tip" associated with many of the points now labelled as "Hack". But this does look to be a very useful book on several levels for Internet commerce.
